An Inky dark grape that is well known in France as one of the Bordeaux varietals allowed in red Bordeaux and in Argentina where it is celebrated as a delicious wine that stands well on it’s own without blending. Cahors in Southern France also makes Malbec, although the style is quite different that Argentina or Bordeaux.
It is a thin skinned grape that needs more heat and more sun to fully ripen. This makes it well suited to the high elevations in Mendoza Argentina. In the glass it can be very dark and tannic, yet the tannins are hidden behind a plum-like flavor.
