Grenache is among the most widely planted wine grape on earth. Also called Garnacha is Spain. It is late-ripening so it lends itself well to be grown in hot, drought ridden areas. Because of the extreme heat it thrives in, it tends to lack the acidity and tannins of other red wines such as Cabernet. Because of this it is commonly blended with other grapes such as Syrah, Carignon, Tempranillo and Cinsault. Prominent in the Rhone Valley and Southern France as well as Spain.
Generally spicy, with notes of raspberry and strawberry with subtle white pepper notes.
