The best Bordeaux wines have long been thought of as the pinnacle of wine making. While that may be true with the best, people forget that there is an ocean of well made, affordable blended red wine not only from Bordeaux but also most other wine making regions. To be considered a “Bordeaux styled blend” it must use 1 or more of the following grapes. Cabernet, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petite Verdot, and Malbec. New world wineries have taken some liberties on the traditional blend and have added other grapes that they may specialize in such as Shiraz or Pinotage. As long as the blend is mostly traditional, we have classified it here.
