Chardonnay

Chardonnay

One of the most widely grown grapes in the world, it is grown pretty much wherever wine is made.

The grape itself is fairly neutral, with most of the flavor and aromas coming from terroir and winery techniques such as oak aging.  In cooler regions such as Chablis or New Zealand the wine takes on a crisp, style with high acidity and notes of green apple, pear and citrus notes.  In warmer regions such as Australia and Central Coast California the wine takes on a more tropical style with notes of fig, bananas and mango.

Chardonnay often goes through malolactic acid and/or oak aging.  This would give the wine a buttery, rich fell with notes of oak and vanilla.
